It's very difficult to get others to realize this. A picture is worth...but maybe a picture and text are worth more. If you are just starting on this journey, be warned that it is a bumpy one. It takes others a while to see the "whole picture" and I have to remind myself they'll piece it together at their own pace.

Dan Pink spoke at the CASE Convention a few years ago and he said:
ReplyDeleteA picture is worth a tousand words, but a metaphor is worth a thousand pictures. I think this is true but I think that also a symbol is worth a thousand metaphors...
Dan -
ReplyDeleteWell said, and most true. How ironic that I was just visiting Karl's blog the other day and reading his post about the start page at AHS. My jaw dropped when I saw how people were encouraged to join in on the various blog discussions from this start page. I stopped and read awhile and noticed your post congratulating some wonderful collaborating being done between an elementary class and individuals in Africa. What you all are doing is amazing - and I've come to believe it's because you, as a district CIO, learn and grow and explore alongside of those teachers and staff you lead. It makes a remarkable difference in adoption rate, in morale, in creativity and innovation, and in sustained forward vision. Keep the great work - your district is a "symbol" for many of us.
